The IBK

The IBK is a breathalyzer/remote key lock that fits on your keychain. The user must blow into their breathalyzer before unlocking their car. If they blow over the legal alcohol limit, the car will not be able to start up, if they blow under, the remote sends a signal to the car, allowing it to start up.

This is a prototype my group designed at SFU, taking a different approach to user-centered design through the study and implementation of cultural probes. From these probes, we built personas and video scenarios, held workshops with our target group, and reiterated our design based off of their feedback until we finally had a working prototype. This project has it’s own website here that outlines every step we took and shows all of the videos and posters we designed for this device.
